about

Last summer I was walking around in my backyard with my guitar and came up with the chords and melody to the chorus. I knew the words were going to be something "on the beach tonight," because I was really thinking about the beach and longing for it. "Crash" revealed itself as the only word that really worked for me. I recorded most of the song soon after I had written the words, having fun with 2 basslines, but there was a big question mark after the second chorus. I was listening to Mitch Murder on a synthwave playlist for background music sometime later and I really got the bug to do a square wave synth solo. I've always adored that tone. It's like what a guitar wants to be when you distort it as much as possible, but there's also something very clean about it at the same time. I have also started listening to a lot of early Enya, who's music was always with my family on road trip vacations. As the (world's smallest) nod to her I added some mellotron female choir.

lyrics

You you are a flash of gold dust dancing in the jet black sky
And I I wanna catch your hand and spin you like a satellite
And we gotta believe to see things

Crash with me baby on the beach tonight
I wanna go where we're both outta reach tonight
And let the waves of onyx and the abalone
Shimmer on your skin and liven up your bones

Cars like dragons burn big canyons in the blacktop blue
And stars like factories are forging all the old stuff new
And we walk on the edge of razors

Crash with me baby on the beach tonight
I wanna learn what you wanna teach tonight
And let the waves of onyx and the abalone
Shimmer on your skin and liven up my bones

[s y n t h s o l o]

Crash with me baby on the beach tonight
I wanna go where we both wanna reach tonight
And let the waves of onyx and the abalone
Shimmer on your skin and liven up your bones

Crash with me baby on the beach tonight
I wanna learn what you wanna teach tonight
And let the waves of onyx and the abalone
Shimmer on your skin and liven up my bones
